She leaned close, resting her brow against the mare’s armored face.
“One more road, old friend.”
The mare breathed against her hand, then stepped into the mist.
By dawn, neither returned.
But when dragons stir beneath the mountains and thunder rolls through the clouds, the people still hear their hoofbeats among the stars.
