The Winter's Queen
Snow drifted in slow spirals as the masked woman stepped into the frozen glade, her candle flickering like a fragile star. The spotted mare reared before her, mane wild, hooves slicing the cold air while glowing snowflake sigils burst to life behind her. Wolves circled silently, one full-grown and watchful, one a bold little pup nudging the woman’s gown. The ancient ice castle groaned as if waking, and a voice cold as deep winter whispered through the trees, “Daughter of frost, will you take the oath?” Heart trembling, she touched the mare’s warm neck, the world holding its breath as the gates opened. She did not know if she was ready, but the winter had already chosen its queen.
