The Wait
He lounged in the velvet hush of the room, shadows draped over him like lovers who never quite left. The world outside still hummed with the pulse of the living, their laughter carried faintly on the night air, but his attention was elsewhere, fixed inward, fixed on hunger. He did not pace, did not grow restless. Instead, he savored the ache as though it were anticipation itself, a slow burn winding through his veins. Each heartbeat he heard beyond those walls was a promise, each fragile breath a whisper of surrender waiting to be claimed. When at last the door would open, and warm skin would step into his reach, he would not rush. He would draw them in, let their fear mingle with desire, let their pulse quicken beneath his lips. The meal was inevitable. The wait, delicious.
